first peoples, sports team names

A while back I heard a story from my Dad, and I've often wondered if it's true.

Apparently the Cleaveland Indians baseball team got it's name because there was one first peoples guy on the team, and some authority said that fella had to be removed because he's an Indian. So, his team mates refused, and said something like Then We're All Indians and that's how the team name came about.

I guess things went downhill after, but was that story true?

@relee - Something I thought was rather awesome out here is that the Seattle Seahawks use a native hawk motif as their logo. But they got a local Native to design it, then got the local tribes to give it their blessing.

If the Cleveland Indians story is true, I would love to see (1) it researched to see if it WAS true and (2) have them redesign the logo by a native and (3) get the blessings of the local natives to use it and the name.

Of course, if they say no, it's NO.

@dolari It should probably change anyways for other reasons, but it would be cool if the story is true.
