@IngaLovinde - It's everything. It's what we saw on TV. The film scenes are cropped to 4:3 from the 16:9 masters (which is how it was broadcast), and the CGI is fullscreen 4:3 (instead of cropped and zoomed 16:9).
@dolari so not the best of two worlds.
They could have do 16:9 film scenes (which is how it was shot IIRC precisely to allow future 16:9 releases) and 4:3 VFX scenes (because the sources for VFX are lost so they cannot recreate VFX in 16:9).
But instead they seem to think that we need the uniform aspect ratio throughout the show (which is how we ended up with VFX cropped to 16:9 and terribly upscaled on DVD, or how we will now end up with film scenes cropped to 4:3 on Blu-ray).
Cowards.
