@StarTrekHour @JoeSondow - A5: I always figured there was no money INSIDE the Federation, but they had a fund or reserve for OUTSIDE the Federation. With Raffi working intelligence outside of the Federation, she'd likely know what money was and could ask for more of it.
@mikemccaffrey @StarTrekHour @JoeSondow - I've always thought that the "replication doesn't taste as good" as basically the replicator is Just One Restaurant.
Like, if you ask a replicator for Sweet and Sour Pork, you always get the same Sweet and Sour Pork. It's exactly the same every time.
But if you go to, say, Twin Dragon and get Sweet and Sour Pork, it's different from China Moon's Sweet and Sour Pork which is different from Quik Wok's Sweet and Sour Pork.
It's one of the reasons I think cooking is still an art in the future. "I like my sweet and sour pork better than the replicators." :)
@dolari @StarTrekHour @JoeSondow Exactly. And in the federation you don't need money for anything that can be replicated, just for the few things that cannot (vineyards?).
A bigger change by Picard's writers was the assertion that replicated food doesn't taste as good as the "real" thing, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
