@irenes - I hate to say it, but I kind of hope they don't dive too deep into fairytale/fantasy. That does nothing for me, and, honestly, I was super dissapointed in the Christmas Special.
That said, it's not "RUINED FOREVER" for me. If it goes down this path, I'll just turn it off, let everyone else enjoy it, and come back when it changes again.
I stopped watching during the Colin Baker years because I found him too abusive. When I came back, I got Sylvester and Ace, the best team. It'll change and usually for the better (from my POV).
@dolari like this is qualitatively different from other "the magic is secretly science" things we've seen because no, the magic is magic, three-time repetitions and synchronized music have power because they are storytelling logic, but there's implied stuff about how the universe was made and what was "in" and "out" of it.
@dolari in the Jodie Whittaker seasons they kinda seem to have decided that the Doctor was OP and nerfed her by taking away a lot of the core truths she believed in, and as much as we liked her as a character and as much as we like the concepts themselves, we were never here for that aspect of it
@dolari we honestly expected that to all be forgotten, but no, it's being built on and kinda redeemed a bit for us. in this season, they seem to be trying to make the Doctor interesting again by introducing an entire new class of antagonist and forcing him to adapt rapidly. fingers crossed that this isn't just us seeing what we want to.
@dolari yeah, one way or another it'll change, it's never been afraid of that.
you like what you like, and that's totally fair. we do enjoy the conceit of fairytale/fantasy with underlying sciency reasons for it, though.
