@dolari i have been on a Star Trek movie semi-rewatch while i'm writing postcards to swing states. hadn't seen TMP in a long time, and i was surprised by how much i enjoyed it.
and of course i've seen TWoK dozens of times by now, but what a satisfying comfort movie.
@zx3 - One of the hills I will die on is that TMP is the most Star Trek of Star Trek movies. It's the only one that is really hard sci-fi with a lot of Star Trek spice mixed in (the others are Character Drama In Space, which isn't bad, but isn't TOS).
When I saw the movie with the cast and crew, my +1 was someone who had never seen the movie before, and she loved it.
The main issue I had was how slow and boring it was, and the director's editions are proof that editing can make or break a film.
