Old Yale Road, Part 2. I didn't expect to make it all the way to Yale today, but we did it! What surprised me was how much the road changed. There are places where it's a super highway, places where it's a small county road, places where the road is main street and places where its a tiny forest road.
There wasn't much in the way of buildings, honestly, and even the town of Yale, massively full of history, is tiny and slowly dissapearing. Thankfully, the historical stuff is protected.
Something we DID do...there were several parts that crossed native reservations, which are all dotted around here. While I'm totally about ignoring signs that say no tresspassing or private road, I try very VERY hard not to trespass on reservations.
The reason I'm in Canada this birthday: I'm FINALLY tracing the Old Yale Road from Vancovuer to Yale. While not quite Canada's version of the Oregon Trail, it was a major old wagon road from New Westminster to Yale and Beyond.
I found an 1880s era map that showed the road, and found the reamnants on a map, and have started driving it. There's not much left of the old road between Vancouver and Abbotsford other than a few historic signs and a building here and there, but I'm hoping to find more as I get out of the urban areas....
