My friend who left Indonesia in the 90s after being assaulted at a bus stop for being gay, only just got his green card *now* after 30 years. He finally fell in love with someone who wanted to marry him, and could. For 30 years, he could not go anywhere. His entire family passed on and he could not see them.
I think so much about visas, queerness, oppression in a trans-national manner. It’s not just foreign policy or immigration policy to me. It’s lived experience for me and everyone I know.
I am eating a dinner of hot wings and tater tots. If I die of eating badly, please do not blame the air fryer. She does not know what she does.

@rooster@chaosfem.tw - I'm a big fan of Linux Mint. I've been dabbling in Linux since '97, but never really stuck with one until I got into Linux Mint. Now it's my daily driver. Easy to install, incredibly functional, while still allowing me the hardware access Microsoft has slowly been eroding away.

Here's the thing.
I have spent 4 years working in and on crypto.
When I criticise it, I know what I'm talking about.
I was drawn in by the idea of a new financial system that didn't rely on traditional banks. I was excited by the idea of rebuilding digital ownership in a post-streaming world.
In the end, I came to realise my idealism had blinded me. The philosophy was largely false.
And outweighed by the scams, thefts, fraud and grift.

@theartlav - I've actually been forced to go about this slowly. I have three optical drives in the house, two DVD burners and one Blu-Ray.
I've been doing 1 Blu-Ray a day, and then however many DVDs, Audio CDs and CD-ROMS I can while that one Blu Ray gets ripped.
It's forced me to take a while to do all this, but at the same time, it's also forced me to take it slow, and really nail down the organization of everything so I'm not looking at thousands of files going "HOW DO I ALPHABETIZE JAPANESE CHARACTERS?!"
Since the beginning of 2022, I've made a big effort to digitize all my archive of...everything (and re-digitizing some of my older stuff).
I've been concentrating on optical media since I started, and after almost two years, I've hit my first milestone: all my audio CDs are re-encoded. I will likely have all my CD-ROMs also ripped shortly.
The Blu-Rays and DVDs not so much. Oh my goodness, the DVD stack is HUGE.
