UPDATE: IT WAS OREGON TRAIL! Thank you to both Cynthia Lux and Bruce Powers for giving me an answer IN TWO MINUTES

Help me, Doctor Internet!

I'm remembering an Apple II (or Apple IIe) game I played in second grade, which would be about 1982) that was one of those text adventures that was text on the bottom and very pixelated art on the top. It took place in the old west.

My brain is saying it's called "Serpentine" but all the research I've done says that's a completely different game, but was out around the time of that game.

Any ideas?

Some dirty pool in the mail today. An official looking letter telling me that I needed to reup my car's registration (which I need to), and renegotiate my insurance...

But it's NOT insurance. It's an extended warranty, which they mention about four paragraphs in. And at the very bottom in tiny print buried in the business stuff is "this is an advertisement."

Bad form, guys, bad form.

Atari 800XL users.

I have an Atari 800XL gifted to me along with a flash cart. I've never tested it, or used it, because I never actually HAD an 800XL. What games/apps should I get to put it through some tests to make sure it's fully functioning?

The Second Life mobile app has just gone live. If you're having issues finding it, here's the link. I've tried it, and the best way I've described it is that it's a Nintendo DS version of a Wii game. It's all there, just...a little wierd looking: play.google.com/store/apps/det

Texas Woman Accused Of Trying To Drown Muslim Child In Racist Attack By Pocharapon Neammanee

“We are American citizens, originally from Palestine, and I don’t know where to go to feel safe with my kids," the 3-year-old's mother said.

“We are seeing a new level of bigotry here where a person deeply believes they get to decide, based on religion, spoken language, and country of origin, whose kids deserve to stay alive and whose don’t,” Zayan said.

Looking for some help from the #baking / #cooking hivemind!

I'm trying to identify why this loaf of bread might have the dark spots. It happens consistently with this specific recipe, but does not appear to impact the flavor or texture at all. It is strictly in the crust, the body of the bread does not show any evidence of this.

Edit to add: The waving in the crust is natural, and the brown spots don't seem to be related. There are spots in the valleys and on the smooth sections.

The recipe is

250ml buttermilk
45g butter, melted
15g yeast proofed in 120ml warm water and 12g sugar
200g whole wheat flour
400g all purpose flour

My best guess is that it is buttermilk solids, but that is a complete guess. I'm hoping someone might know what causes this!

Boosts appreciated!

Oh? You're a lesbian? Which animaniacs character do you dress like?

This seems exactly correct. I make computational art, and I write about the same technical topics that LLMs aren’t terrible at. But I genuinely don’t think I’m losing my audience to the latest gpt model. It’s not my skill as a coder or an artist that makes people care about my work, it’s the connection between the author and the audience that makes it work. I’m not stackoverflow, I’m a human being who shows herself in her work
