Get something used or older, and basic. Learn how to use it. Operating technique and antenna has a lot more to do with radio than how much money you spend on anything (radio or antenna).

I've made most of my contacts on vintage radios, on antennas made out of scrap wire and PVC. Never paid more than $10 for an HF antenna, most of them are made out of junk I found on the side of the road.

found this lost duckling in my yard and, after some adventuring, reunited them with their brood; although, i'm not 100% if it was their original brood, but i found the mom with ducklings of same size and coloring and the lost one did snap into line quite well after only a few minutes.

so we figure it's time for our annual reminder to please not donate to the Salvation Army because their mission and their services are explicitly hostile to queer people.
