@socketwench - Fun fact, the copy of the early script I had, which I've since lost, had the whales as Adam and Evie. A LITTLE ON THE NOSE THERE.

@socketwench - Again, I find the interrogation of Chekov (is he being avoidant, or is he really just being dumb) and the "here's a pill for a new kidney" to be very very bad additions, and another reason I don't like the movie. Add to it, the ham handedness of the Save The Whales information at the Cetacian Institute, I really only watch this movie to complete the trilogy.

@socketwench - That SERIOUSLY bothers me, and is one of the many reasons I don't like the movie. Scotty, as an engineer, with a passion for it, would know what a mouse is Maybe he'd have problems navigating the OS, but not just ignorant of a mouse. Plus his typing with one finger. Really bothers me.

@socketwench - So. The Wub Wub sound of the whale probe. The deep bass wub wub.

The sound designer came up with multipled versions of that sound, each time Nimoy said "No. Not like that." Over and over and over again. Eventually the sound designer got so angry, he pulled Nimoy over to the mic and told him "WHAT SHOULD IT SOUND LIKE?!"

Nimoy: "Wub wub wub."

The sound on the screen? A heavily filtered Nimoy going wub wub wub over and over again.

@socketwench - Something that's a personal headcanon is that the Klingon's AREN'T a warrior race They're a PASSIONATE race. They give EVERYTHING 150%. Sure they're amazing warriors, because they're passionate about it. But we've also seen the Klingon Chef who is passionate about cooking. And here the Klingon Politician who is putting 150% into this.

Question for the Ancient among us on the Internet: Do you remember a text based program/app/website/gopher-thingy called "World Wide Window?" This would have been about 1993/1994 or so.

My college had it as what looked to be a text-only Web Browser, but it could have been gopher or a gopher front end. That's about all I remember about it. Any ideas what it was?

I remember the golden age of the internet. When it was a wonderful place, full of love and joy.

While my work doing movie archaeology is mostly centered around Star Trek: The Motion Picture, it actually wasn't my first real success. That was finding scripts and footage for Star Wars, pre-internet. Nowadays it's fairly simple to find cut footage, but back then, all we had were pics and scripts.

@Orb2069 @spottyfox - which puts it in, like, the mid 80s? Street fighter timeline is weird.

@Orb2069 -I was a townie they're for four years. It wasn't bad. Just not someplace I wanted to spend the rest of my life at.

Suddenly feeling nostalgic for my time in State College, PA. Not sure why. For the most part, I wasn't very happy there. Not until just before we left. Maybe it's that part of me that misses it.

Quote of the day: "Yes, this is the best episode of the series, in the same way that liver is the best of the organ meats."
