I recently had a realization about what Twitter became and what the expectations of social media are for the people who thrived there:
They want a *broadcast* medium, not a *discussion* medium.
They get actively upset when people *REPLY* to them.
That seems like a weird reaction when you post on a *discussion* site!
But Twitter failed at being a "social medium" and became a "parasocial medium": a site for adoring fans to follow celebrities around.
Maybe why I never liked it.
Adam Conover's activism has been refreshing to see during the writer's strike: not just picketing the studios but educating the public about what a union does and how a strike works at the same time. It's also fun to hear about other entertainers I admire working hard to support the picket lines. #Labor https://jacobin.com/2023/07/adam-conover-wga-strike?utm_source=werd.io&utm_campaign=mastodon&utm_channel=mastodon
