TIL there’s a name for a weird feeling that I actually enjoy having:
kenopsia
n. the eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that’s usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet—a school hallway in the evening, an unlit office on a weekend, vacant fairgrounds—an emotional afterimage that makes it seem not just empty but hyper-empty, with a total population in the negative, who are so conspicuously absent they glow like neon signs.
@anthracite i still can't believe i'm going to see Sisters of Mercy next month. the Pageant is going to smell like absinthe, clove cigarettes and Ben-Gay.

Reminder: Before you disrespect a racist on their passing, remember they may have family members and friends who love them. You should disrespect those people too.

Well, folks, my latest Wired column is live. It's about the urgent need for publicly visible displays of trans joy and resistance, and how popular social media platforms provide every incentive to suppress it in favour of terror, despair, and doom.
Having seen so many of my fellow trans people afraid that no one is noticing the far-right's attacks on trans rights, or that no one is speaking out or fighting back, I felt it was time to push back on the algorithmic doom.
Because, really, don't we all need more singing robotic bunnies in our lives?
Spoilers for Picard Season 3, episode 10, but it's funny, you should watch this....

Forgive me friends, I had to. Spoilers for Picard Season 3, episode 10.
@Momentrabbit take good care of yourself.
@socketwench if you ever really want to try it, i would be happy to send you some genuine Imo's-brand crusts and provel--NOT to imply that Imo's is the superior provider of STL-style pizza; that's a misconception. but the goods they sell in grocery stores here are more than adequate for home pizza-crafting.
@socketwench you need a thin, cracker-like crust, provel cheese (not provelone, provel! it is its own thing!), and a willingness to cut the pizza into squares rather than triangles; regardless of how unnatural it may seem. and toasted ravioli on the side.
