"Piracy can't be stealing if paying for it isn't owning"

This is increasingly how it feels, when things you "own" digitally become inaccessible, and when shows which are locked in streaming services can get delisted on a whim, disappearing forever.

Thank you @Illuminatus for this quote.

[Edit: In case this wasn't clear, this is about entertainment and digital ownership, not physical goods]

attention and : allow, for just, a moment your elders to pass on to you the sweet, lilting refrains of an anthem of seasons past. let it lift thy spirits and inspire both young and old to persevere in times of darkness.

We're half way through the fundraising period.

There are just 5 days left. I know everyone is tired (including me) lol. But let's get through this and hold the British Museum accountable!!

If you ever wanted to do something about the British Museum's theft, please spread the word:

To anyone thinking about joining BlueSky, especially artists: everything you post is sent to a third party for AI labeling.

BlueSky uses AI to label content for moderation, and to do that they use a company called thehive.ai. If you look through their privacy policy, you will see that they can use content sent to them to train models for all their services, which include generative AI for both text and images.

The FCC is accepting applications for new, low-power, community radio stations the first week of November.

This is huge, you guys, this window rarely opens (the last time was 2013), and as you know, KUZU shows one way LPFM can be a foundation to build valuable community information resources.

The Grassroots Radio folks are holding a conference in West Virginia to help folks out with this.

Please boost and share.

#Twitter vs #Mastodon

Twitter is like a top of the range Lamborghini but you’re trapped in the boot full of broken bottles and it’s being driven over a cliff by a madman.

Mastodon is like sitting in the back of a dilapidated VW camper van, with knackered suspension, no air conditioning, but lots of nice passengers having a sing-song and there’s a dog called Mr. Snuffles.

Keeping this here for anyone who might need it. Please share freely so we can end the need to share it at all :/

so i'm thinking that every leftist group should have its own subset of GWAR cosplayers with their own Doof Wagon who show up at protest to horrify and annoy fascists. in this way a better world can be forged through the Scumdogs of the Universe.

anybody know how much longer i have to fake this whole "being human" thing before it's safe

current emotion: "what the hell even am i and what is all THIS"

"Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.
But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.
A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said."
We are at our best when we serve others. Be civilized.
