the backlash against touch screens is long overdue

@ami_angelwings - I've always said the Star Wars Prequels are amazing stories told incredibly badly. Like Hamlet as told by Mrs Spreen's Third Grade English Class.

Bunraku is a visual feast of a movie with a plot held together with scotch tape and spit: youtube.com/watch?v=8Js7-rSrHs

If you have renounced a dishonorable position, have abandoned a previous harmful stance, that is to be commended. But the journey does not end there. Remember that though your following days are over, now you must follow through.

In 1916, 23 yr old chemist Alice Ball discovered a breakthrough in treatment for Leprosy (Hansen’s Disease). She was the 1st woman & 1st Black chemistry professor at UHawaii.

Tragically, Ball passed away months after her discovery due to complications from a lab accident.

What happened next? Arthur Dean, head of her dept, continued the work publishing Ball’s process as “Dean’s method.”

Fortunately, a colleague spoke up & the name was changed to “Ball’s method.” #HistoryRemix #science #history

A Second Life memory that's stuck with me was a couple conversing in Korean, and a third person in the area interjected "I don't speak Italian"

@socketwench - I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO MATH ON THIS TEST.

...although that's actually neat way to calculate it I'd never thought of. However, I'd likely get the wrong answer of 68,000,000,000 on first glance.

Scientific notation like this actually confuses the hell out of my mathematically incapable brain. At least in long form, I have coping strategies.

I have no idea what 6.8x10^9 translates to. But 6,800,000,000 I know as 6 billion 800 million cause I can count the commas.

@StarTrekHour @Twerpy - A4: I didn't really find him "endearingly gruff" as most of my friends did. He sounded very unwilling to take chances and vindictive. His dead-naming Seven bothered the hell out of me as a transwoman. All this colored my view of him as Not A Good Captain.

Even at the end, when he tells Seven "The ship is yours" I interpreted that as "Are you happy now?"

There might be some bias there as his constant deadnaming is something that viscerally affected me, but I wasn't fond of him, right to the end.

@StarTrekHour @JoeSondow - A5: I always figured there was no money INSIDE the Federation, but they had a fund or reserve for OUTSIDE the Federation. With Raffi working intelligence outside of the Federation, she'd likely know what money was and could ask for more of it.

@StarTrekHour @Twerpy - For me, the difference between homage and rip-off is "has the moment been earned." In TMP, that moment was earned by the ten years off the air.

If they'd gone the whole bombastic music, slow creep from spacedock with multiple shots, I'd consider it a rip-off as I don't think a moment like tht was earned by a ship we'd mostly never heard of before.

At the same time, I don't think there was a rip off when the Titan left spacedock, or even a nod to TMP. It didn't feel super special like TMP did, but wasn't a bad scene on it's own.

You are cursing your trans children into a lifetime of hurt by not allowing them access before puberty. Take it from someone living that hurt.
