In honor of MST3K's birthday on Thanksgiving Day, I give you the best song ever made in the Universe!
IT STINKS!
Shower thought: An idea I'd had for a random thing to hang on a wall is an old recycled laptop display which silently plays Star Trek: The Motion Picture in slow motion over the course of a day or so and loops.
For as self-indulgent & ponderous the movie was, it was chock full of beautiful frames of sci-fi. Especially for 1979.
Also occurs to me that it would be neat to have running on a smartwatch as wallpaper, if I ever wore one.
Like, just imagine glancing at it from one random moment to another and seeing something like this, entirely removed from context or plot
@georgetakei - Mine hold my Sodastream syrups.
It's that time of year where I like to remind everyone that "relatives" and "family" aren't the same thing, nor need they be
Relatives are people you are related to
Family are people who love you
Maybe there's some overlap, maybe there isn't - there's no wrong answer here.
But whatever you do, try not to let your relatives make you feel like you owe them anything - because you don't
Relatives are a cosmic accident, family is a relationship found and built
Anyway, stay safe out there
@aesmael - The secret is to jump from really high towards the ground, and miss it.
Allan Horsfall, since last week, is my #UK #LGBT #hero.
In 1964, three years before "homosexuality" was partly decriminalised in the UK, Allan published a brochure calling for #LGBT equality. He used his home address on it.
People wrote to him with their stories, and to request copies of the #brochure to distribute further. This created a queer #community in the UK.
That was before photocopying. He had to find a printing company to typeset and print it.
@socketwench - One of the wierd things about this movie is how close it hews to the original Pierre Boule book "Monkey Planet."
EXCEPT, the apes and humans are reversed. There are even parts of the movie where they lifted scenes directly from the book.
I do love this movie. The 60/70s Planet of the Apes movies are incredibly dire, and are movies I like to watch when I WANT Humanity to burn. This one is still dire, but is at least a lot of fun getting there.
@socketwench - Oh, just you wait....
@socketwench - I've never seen a straight answer to this, but just little bits and pieces, but Sal Mineo apparently couldn't handle the ape makeup. His death MAY have been writing out the character to release him.
Unfortunately, I don't have early drafts to see if Dr Milo had more of a presence in the final movie.
@socketwench - This really is Zira's movie.
@socketwench - That's such a great reveal.
