This Week's Meals: BONUS

There's a special place in my heart for one baked good. I judge bakeries based on it. And if I don't like the way you make it, I won't ever go back to your bakery.

Today, I made the thing. TODAY, I AM THE BAKER. TODAY, I'M THE GOD! I'M THE GOOoOOoOOOD!

I made...Cinnamon Rolls. Specifically, Luby's Cinnamon Rolls.

My oven nearly ruined them...they're supposed to bake at 350F, but my oven does it's own thing. After dialing in 350F (Which is 325F on my oven's dial), I popped in the rolls. I checked on them at fifteen minutes to find my oven running at 425F, and the rolls starting to over-brown. I think I got them out in time.

The glaze is something that I was really interested in. I don't know if it's a Texas thing, a Southern thing, or a Seattle thing, but up here in Seattle, cinnamon rolls are frosted with a cream cheese frosting. It's not bad, and in fact, quite good, but it's not what we use at home.

The Luby's recipe uses evaporated milk, butter and powdered sugar, and is just like I remember from the cinnamon rolls back home.

Oh, this could be super dangerous. SUPER dangerous.

Quick Quiz: How do YOU (not the proper pronunciation, but YOU) pronounce "Zöe?"

i'm a pescaratarian, i only eat people from northern italy

And now I'm watching the Netflix Carmen Sandiego cartoon, and suddenly I'm realizing this is Jackie Chan Adventures except it's about a rogue hero working against the good AND bad guys.

Ah, baking.

I've become quite the cook over the last decade or so, but nothing, absolutely nothing, scares me more than baking. So much work, takes forever, can depend on the weather you're having(!) and you don't know if you messed it up till the very end.

Scares me even more than deep frying!

Watching the Battle Angel Alita OVA for the first time in forever, and damn I miss the days of small but well done two or three part OVAs series.

@coachgowron Dear Gowron Claus,

I've been a very honorable warrior this year, fighting shoulder to shoulder with my allies, or for those who are unable to do so themselves.

May I have a bat'leth and a pain stick, wrapped in Klingon Hello Kitty paper?

Qapla' and an Honorable Christmas to you!

Tonight's episode of Dr. Who was "The End of the World." I remember watching this as the second episode of the new Doctor Who, and feeling that the show felt very very very different with Chris Eccleston. He was almost too intense.

There's a point where he callously refuses to save a villain as she painfully dies, and he says "Everything has its time, and everything dies" when another character asks him to help the villain. At that point, I nearly turned the show off, cause this wasn't the Doctor I remember.

And then later, he talks about how he saw Gallifrey burn in a war and how "we lost" and "they're all gone" with him as the only survivor. And it hits me: This IS The Doctor. And holy cow has he seen some shit.

I believe in a livable wage for everyone. It baffles me business owners argue with me, and I’ve had many do so, that paying their staff a higher wage will destroy their business. They are always white dudes who fancy themselves clever businessmen.

Until I hit them with, “wait, are you saying you didn’t budget for employee wages that afford them the basics of life? Surely you budgeted for that, right, Jimothy? I thought you understood business?”

It’s a blow to the fragile biz man fee fees.

@maegul @AriaGrace Here's a great flow chart that shows the visibility of a toot on which timeline it will appear dependent on if it's on a local and federated instance & if you follow someone who interacted with it.
