Baking day!

@TonyaMarie @secant2

1) Kolache: Almsot Mastered
2) Koblanisky: Never tried. Planning to make them soon using the kolache dough for the bread, like Weikels' does, but don't have a good recipe for the construction of the roll.
2) Cinnamon Rolls: MASTERED, OMG MASTERED FIRST TIME.

Baking day!

@secant2 @TonyaMarie - Ah, the "pigs in a blanket" version.
They're actually "Koblanisky" but in Texas they've inherited the name Kolache since they're often sold together.

That said...I WOULD LOVE YOUR RECIPE. This is the third of the Texas Baking Trifecta I need to master.

Baking day!

@TonyaMarie @EmilyGB20 - For me it was Weikels' in LaGRange. I didn't have much family in Dallas, they were all in Houston, so we'd stop in LaGrange.

If you're interested in some German recipes from the region, see if you can pick up the 1996 edition of the "Fredericksburg Home Kitchen Cookbook." That's where this recipe comes from and it's got a whole section of German dishes made by German Schoolkids' Moms. :)

It's rare to come across it outside of the Fredericksburg Pioneer Museum, but it's not only out there, online editions of the now public domain copies (the 1920s and earlier editions) are online.

Baking day!

@TonyaMarie @EmilyGB20 - Oh, don't thank me. Thank whoever Mrs. Nettle of Fredericksburg, Texas, was. It's her ancient recipe. :) I'm glad they came out good!

Baking day!

@TonyaMarie - Those look fantastic!

Did you put the Ricotta.Cream Cheese filling AND jam in those? Cause I never thought to do that!

Also, if the holes are "closing up" on you in that last bake, one thing I do is I don't make the hole with my fingers - I actually use measuring cups to make the hole as wide as possible.

Baking day!

@TonyaMarie - Let me know how they come out!

Who has two thumbs and just got laid off? THIS GAL.

The website is now up live! And I'm very late for bed. Feel free to poke around, let me know if I broke anything or made anything super ugly.

Comics are coming soon. And all those grey/black links will be filled in with tasty stuff...eventually.

Many thanks to my curiously silent benefactor for keeping my hosting going for nearly 25 years! O_o;

And finally done with the website. I'm deleting the old one as we speak and will be uploading the new stuff shortly.

Man, going through the comic links and cleaning them up was melancholy. So many of those old comics gone. As long as there was one comic on the site, I kept the link, but wow, lots of old friends moved on....

And FINALLY I've vacuumed the office, meaning I've cleaned the house, which I started before the new year. 2023 MAY NOW OFFICIALLY START.
