Do you, or have you ever, used a graphical user interface? If you use #Windows, #macOS, or any version of #Linux with a window manager or desktop environment, you can thank Dr. Clarence "Skip" Ellis.

Dr. Ellis worked at Xerox PARC, the research organization that developed the modern GUI. Icons, windows, the mouse, Ethernet-based networking, laser printing - all of these (and more) came out of PARC. Dr. Ellis led the team that created Officetalk, the first program to use icons and the Internet. He got his start at 15 years old showing a local tech company how to reuse punch cards, which was a game-changer back in 1958.

Oh, and he was also the first black man to earn a PhD in Computer Science.

@ami_angelwings - My fave toy was this thing that Galoob created at the beginning of the ST:TNG era that was CLEARLY a rip off of the AT-ST fromn Star Wars.

It was this really cool Shuttlecraft, whose warp engines flipped down and would act like a pair of legs, allowing the ship to walk around above ground level.

Never saw it in the show, not sure if it was an old Galoob toy they turned into a Trek Toy, but I only ever saw one at a comic shop that closed down shortly afterwards.

So I planned to make some pork loins with a maple glaze for one of next wek's meals. But I reduced the syrup just a tad too much and now I've made pork loins with a maple candy shell.

THEY'RE SO GOOD I'M GIVING THESE OUT FOR HALOWEEN THIS YEAR.

MY FRIENDS. WE HAVE PROPER LOOKING CINNAMON ROLLS.

Just....ignore those middle ones.

The secret was to cut them into strips THEN roll them. They rolled perfectly. The middleones are still silly looking, but onl because I didn't cut the "edges" or the end of the dough. I'll do that next time, whenever that is.

I'm calling this a success and FINALLY moving on to another bread next week!

@Alairthephoenix - I actually have a diagnosis of Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. Doesn't mean much but at least I have a reason.

Wierd thing I noticed. When I was working and had to wake up at 7AM or earlier, I had to take a nap at lunch. No questions. At Nintendo, I went into my car to sleep. At Tableau, I booked the quiet room and slept in there.

A year and a half of sleeping when I wanted to, I noticed I don't need a nap in the middle of the "day." I'm awake the entire time.

These last few days, the closer my wake up time got to 7AM, to more and more I fought taking a nap. Today, yesterday and the day before, I couldn't even fight it. I had to stop and take a nap.

All the more reason why I think the 9 to 5 work day just isn't what my metabolism wants.

"Why bother with Fedi if there's no built-in monetization?"

Have you considered that maybe this "monetize everything" mindset has been making large parts of the internet and society worse?
